Off fossil power by 2030.

By 2030, every Calyraen site runs on carbon-free electricity. Where the grid already sells it, we buy it. Where it doesn't, we generate our own.

The pledge

One promise, said plainly.

Our own operations run on carbon-free electricity by 2030. That covers the buildings we work in and the machines that keep our own lights on, not a slice of them. We buy clean power from the grid wherever a grid sells it, and we build our own where none does yet. Then we publish how each site is doing, one site at a time, so you can check the promise against the meter.

Two routes to zero

Buy it clean, or build it.

On the grid

Buy carbon-free power where it's sold

In most places the grid already sells electricity made without burning anything. There we sign for the carbon-free supply directly, so the power feeding a Calyraen site is clean from the plug all the way back to where it's made.

On site

Generate our own where the grid can't

Some sites sit on a grid that still leans on fossil fuel. We don't wait for it to catch up. At those sites we generate carbon-free power on our own ground and cover the gap the grid leaves.

The plan

How we get there.

No single switch flips this. It's a handful of plain moves, repeated at every site until the fossil share reaches zero.

  1. Measure every site

First we meter where the power comes from, building by building. You can't cut what you haven't counted, so each site starts with an honest number of its own.

  2. Buy clean where we can

Where the local grid sells carbon-free electricity, we move the site onto it. This is the fastest cut, and for many sites it's most of the job.

  3. Generate the rest

Where the grid can't supply clean power yet, we build our own generation on site to cover what's left. The aim is a site that draws no fossil power, not one that mostly avoids it.

  4. Publish it, per site

Every site's progress goes on the record where anyone can read it. When a number moves, the page moves with it, and when we fall behind we say so.

Closer look

Progress you can check.

We'd rather show the meter than the mission statement. Each site's carbon-free share is published on its own and updated as the work lands, so the promise is something you can hold us to instead of something you take on faith.

Per-site reporting, updated as each site moves off fossil power.

“If we can't show the meter, it isn't a commitment, it's a slogan. Every site's power is on the record, and we report the misses as plainly as the wins.”

The fine print, in plain words

The questions people ask.

Imagery in production

Why 2030, and not sooner or later?

It's close enough to plan against and far enough to actually finish.

2030 is near enough that the work has to start now, and far enough that we can move a whole estate of sites without cutting corners. It's a date we can plan backward from, site by site, rather than a round number chosen because it sounded good. Some sites will get there years early, on grids that already run clean. Others depend on generation we still have to build. The 2030 line is the point by which every one of them is done.

What does carbon-free electricity actually mean here?

Power made without burning fossil fuel, traced back to the source.

It means the electricity a site runs on was generated without burning coal, oil or gas. We're talking about the power itself, traced back to where it's made, not an offset bought elsewhere to cancel out dirty power on paper. Where we buy from the grid, that means a carbon-free supply we can point to. Where we generate our own, it means the site makes clean power on the spot.

Does this cover the computers you sell?

This promise is about our own operations. The products are their own work.

This commitment is about our own operations, the sites where Calyraen people work and where our systems run. It's the part we control directly, so it's the part we put a firm date on. The energy that goes into the machines we build, and the power they draw once they're on your desk, is a separate piece of work with its own commitments. We keep those honest on their own terms rather than folding them in to flatter this number.

Kept in the open

Judge us by the meter.

The pledge is easy to type. The proof is the per-site record, and we keep it current whether the news is good or not. Read where every site stands today.
