Sustainability

What we are doing, and where we still fall short.

We make our own chips, hardware, operating system and software, so the whole footprint sits with us. This page is the truth of it: the commitments we have kept, the progress we can measure, and the parts we have not sorted out yet.

Our word

Why this page reads plainly.

We would rather tell you the truth than sell you a story. Some of the numbers below are good. Some are not where we want them, and we say which is which. We do not buy badges. We do not round up. We will not call a machine green because it shipped in a brown box.

When a target slips, the old date stays on the page right next to the new one. Hold us to both.

Where we are

The numbers, measured not guessed.

68% Renewable power last year
41% Recycled aluminium in our chassis
7 yr Spare parts kept in stock
19,000 Machines taken back and recycled

Energy

Cleaner power, and the gap we still carry

Our factories and data centres ran on about 68 percent renewable electricity last year, up from 54 percent the year before. The rest is mostly grid power in places where clean supply is still thin, and we will not pretend that contracts and credits are the same as a clean grid. Two on-site solar arrays are going up at our assembly sites, the first due online in late 2026. We publish the figure we actually measured, never a projection.

Materials

Every part on the list, most of the way there

We publish a full parts list for every system we sell, down to the metals on the board. About 41 percent of the aluminium in our chassis is recycled today, and our packaging is all paper, with no plastic film or foam. We have not reached our goal of recycled tin and gold in the solder. That work is underway with our suppliers, and it is slower than we would like.

Built to last

The greenest machine is the one you keep.

Every laptop, workstation and server we make opens with a standard screwdriver. The parts that wear out, the battery, the storage, the fans, come out and go back in without a specialist.

Repair guides are free to download, and we stock spare parts for at least seven years after a model leaves the shop.

Longevity

Made to last, then taken back.

Kept in service for years

Security updates reach older machines long after the warranty runs out.

A machine that stays useful is the simplest way to shrink its footprint, so we work to keep yours running. Because CalyOS is ours, we keep sending security updates to older machines well past the end of their warranty. The hardware does not retire before it has to, and neither does the software on it. When a part finally gives up, you buy it from us directly and fit it yourself with a free step-by-step guide. We hold spares for at least seven years after a model stops selling.

Send it back when it is done

End-of-life machines come back to us free, shipping included.

When a Calyraen product reaches the end of its life, send it back to us. We recycle it at no cost, and we cover the shipping. Machines that still work are wiped clean, refurbished and either resold or donated. Whatever is left is broken down so the metals and plastics go back into supply instead of landfill. Last year we took back and processed about 19,000 machines. We want that number far higher. The thing holding it back is simple: too few people know the programme exists. Now you do.

“We would rather publish the number that embarrasses us than the one that flatters us.”

Still open

What we have not figured out.

How do you square fast shipping with a clean footprint?

We haven't, not yet. Air freight is fast and dirty. Sea freight is slow and clean. We have not found a balance we are proud of. Right now we are testing slower default shipping on orders that are not urgent, and we will report what it actually changes.

Do you know the energy your chips use once they are in our hands?

Not cleanly. We can measure what happens in the factory. Measuring energy use out in the field, across every machine and every workload, is much harder. We would rather admit that than publish a guess dressed up as a figure.

Ask for the detail

Want the full report?

We send the detailed annual breakdown to anyone who asks. Suppliers, customers and critics alike. There is no form wall and no sales follow-up, just the numbers and how we got them.
