Surveillance drone

A long-endurance aircraft carrying a stabilised EO/IR gimbal and on-board detection. It reaches any point on a site in under a minute, holds there for over an hour, tells a person from an animal on its own, and puts one encrypted picture in front of every responder.

The problem

Blind

A fixed camera network covers the posts you planned for and leaves the gaps you did not. Blind spots sit behind buildings, along tree lines and across the stretches of a site no mast reaches, and the moment an incident moves it moves out of frame. Guards cannot stand everywhere, a foot patrol takes minutes to reach the far fence, and by the time a control room stitches three feeds together the subject has gone. What a site needs is an eye that can be over any point within a minute, hold there for the length of a shift, separate a person from a fox on its own, and hand that call to every responder at once. That is an aircraft, not another pole.

A gyro-stabilised three-axis gimbal pairs a 30x electro-optical zoom with a thermal IR channel, bore-sighted so the operator works one fused picture from noon to the middle of the night. Without it, a fixed network has fixed blind spots and goes half-blind after dark. With it, the eye moves to the incident, reads a plate or a face at full zoom in daylight and a heat signature through darkness or light fog, and every frame is time and position stamped. The same gimbal flies on every airframe in the range.

On-board inference classifies people and vehicles at the edge and raises an alert only on a real detection, so an operator is not asked to watch an empty picture for an hour. Lock a target and the aircraft flies the follow itself while the operator directs. Command and video are AES-256 encrypted and under 200 ms glass to glass. Detections, position and tracks push over documented REST and an ONVIF video profile any authorised control room can consume. The aircraft flies the watch; the whole team sees one picture.

Endurance is the part you size to the site, so the airframe comes as three series on one shared sensing and ground stack. Quad series, multirotor, precise hold over a gate or a crowd, 40 to 60 minutes, hot-swap battery to refly in two. Fixed-wing series, up to two hours of perimeter patrol and long transit over a large estate, mapping and monitoring rather than holding. VTOL series, vertical launch then wing cruise, 60 to 90 minutes, for a watch that has to reach a far corner and then loiter.

Sub-pixel stabilisation holds a plate or a face readable at full zoom from over a kilometre in daylight. On thermal, a warm body separates from cold ground well beyond that, so a person crossing an unlit field is a contact, not a guess.

EO and thermal, bore-sighted

The two channels share a boresight, so a thermal contact picked up at night hands straight to the 30x zoom the moment it comes into light. The cooled IR option holds contrast through light fog and smoke and extends detection range for colder climates, while the uncooled channel suits general watch and follow. You choose the channel against the range and the light you actually work in.

Sensing

Cooled or uncooled thermal?

Both are offered. The uncooled long-wave channel suits general watch and follow; the cooled channel extends detection range and holds contrast through light fog and smoke. We size the choice against the range and the climate you fly.

Does detection run on the aircraft or in a cloud?

Classification runs on-board at the edge, so alerts do not depend on a link to a cloud and footage does not have to leave your network to raise one.

How readable is the picture at range?

Sub-pixel stabilisation holds a plate or a face readable at full 30x zoom from over a kilometre in daylight, and a warm body separable from cold ground on thermal well beyond that.

Detection is set to alert on people and vehicles, not to identify a named individual, and privacy zones mask fixed areas such as neighbouring property. Every clip is time and GPS stamped and every flight logged, so who watched what and when is a record, not a claim. Retention and access follow your policy, held on your network rather than a vendor cloud.

Evidence

Admissible, not a phone photo

Recording is on-board in H.265 with a time and position overlay, exported as standard MP4 and stills with an unbroken chain of custody. A clip is handed to an investigation or a court as evidence, not a picture of a screen taken on a phone. Nothing has to leave your network to be useful, and the export format is one your legal team already accepts.

Typically EASA Open or Specific in Europe and FAA Part 107 in the United States. We evidence to the one you operate under and support the Specific, waiver or flight-over-people case.

Can it legally fly over people?

The multirotor holds a full motor-out control margin and low-noise props for operation over people under the appropriate waiver, and we evidence the airworthiness case for that profile.

Where is footage stored?

On your network, under your retention policy. Nothing is forced into a vendor cloud, and privacy zones and access controls are set before first flight.

You buy the configured aircraft, the ground system and the CalyOS Embedded flight stack once, and they are yours, with signed firmware updates included through the support term. Advance replacement puts a spare in the air before a failed unit is returned, and spares and signed images are held ten years from the last shipment.
