What cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.

Draft for legal review. This page is a working draft prepared for review by our legal team before launch. The wording, category details, and cookie lists below may change. If you notice something that needs updating, please contact us.

This Cookie Policy explains how Calyraen uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our websites, use our accounts and services, or interact with our products. It describes what these technologies are, why we use them, and how you can control them.

What cookies and similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device (your computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. Cookies let a site recognize your device on later visits, remember choices you have made, and understand how the site is used.

We also use technologies that work in a similar way, such as:

  • Local storage and session storage, which store small amounts of data in your browser.
  • Pixels and tags (sometimes called web beacons), which are tiny elements embedded in pages or emails that can signal when content has been loaded.
  • Software development kits (SDKs) and device identifiers used inside our apps and on our own devices.

In this policy we use the word "cookies" to refer to cookies and all of these related technologies, unless we say otherwise.

Cookies can be set by us (first-party cookies) or by other companies whose services appear on our pages (third-party cookies). They can also last for different lengths of time, which we explain further below.

Why we use cookies

We use cookies to:

  • Keep the site secure and running, including signing you in and protecting forms you submit.
  • Remember your settings and preferences, such as language, region, and display choices.
  • Understand how our sites and services are used so we can fix problems and improve them.
  • Measure the performance of our content and, where you allow it, show you more relevant messages about Calyraen products and services.

We do not use cookies to collect more information than we need, and we group them into clear categories so you can decide what to allow.

The cookie categories on our banner

When you visit our site, our consent banner lets you choose which categories of cookies you are comfortable with. We use the following four categories, shown as they appear on the banner.

Strictly necessary (always on)

These cookies are required for the website to work. They handle core functions such as keeping you signed in, protecting forms and requests against certain attacks, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choices. Because the site cannot function properly without them, they are always on and cannot be switched off through our banner.

Examples:

  • session (our session cookie), which keeps you signed in and maintains your session as you move between pages.
  • XSRF-TOKEN, which helps protect forms and requests against cross-site request forgery.

Preferences (functional)

These cookies let the site remember choices you make so we can offer a more personal and convenient experience. This can include remembering your language or region, your display settings, and other preferences. If you turn these off, the site will still work, but some conveniences may be reset each time you visit.

Examples: cookies that store your selected language, region, currency, or interface preferences.

Analytics

These cookies help us understand how visitors find and use our sites and services. They tell us, for example, which pages are visited most, how people move through the site, and where errors happen, so we can improve performance and content. The information is used in an aggregated way to understand overall trends.

Examples (set by Google Analytics):

  • _ga, which is used to distinguish individual users.
  • _gid, which is used to distinguish individual users over a shorter period.
  • _gat, which is used to limit the rate at which requests are made.

Marketing

These cookies are used to measure the effectiveness of our campaigns and, where you allow it, to show you more relevant messages about Calyraen products and services across our sites and on other platforms. They may be set by our advertising and social media partners.

Examples:

  • _gcl (Google), used to measure conversions from ads.
  • _fbp (Meta or Facebook), used to deliver and measure advertising.
  • fr (Meta or Facebook), used for advertising delivery and measurement.

How long cookies last

Cookies last for different amounts of time depending on their purpose:

  • Session cookies are temporary. They exist only while your browser is open and are deleted when you close it or when your session ends. Our session cookie is an example.
  • Persistent cookies stay on your device for a set period, or until you delete them. They are used to remember your choices and to recognize returning visitors. The length of time varies by cookie and by the party that sets it, ranging from minutes to months.

Where a cookie is set by a third party, its lifetime is controlled by that third party. You can review and delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, as described below.

How to manage your choices

You have several ways to control cookies.

Using our consent banner. When you first visit, our banner lets you accept or decline each category of cookies. You can change your choices at any time by reopening the banner or the cookie settings link on our site. Your choices are saved so we can respect them on future visits. Please remember that Strictly necessary cookies are always on and cannot be switched off, because the site cannot work properly without them.

Using your browser settings. Most browsers let you see the cookies stored on your device, delete them, and block some or all cookies. Look in your browser's settings or help pages under "cookies," "privacy," or "site data." You can usually choose to block third-party cookies, clear cookies when you close the browser, or be warned before a cookie is set.

On our devices and apps. On Calyraen OS and in our apps, you can manage related permissions and identifiers through the privacy or settings menus.

Please note that if you block or delete cookies, some parts of our sites and services may not work as intended, and you may need to set your preferences again.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by companies other than Calyraen. This happens when we include tools or content from those companies, such as analytics providers, advertising and social media partners, embedded videos, or maps. These third parties may use cookies to collect information about your activity across different sites over time.

We do not control how these third parties use the information they collect. Their use of cookies is governed by their own policies. Where these cookies fall into the Analytics or Marketing categories, we only allow them to operate after you have given consent through our banner, except where the law allows otherwise. You can find more information in the privacy and cookie notices of the relevant providers, and you can adjust or withdraw your consent at any time using our banner or your browser settings.

Do Not Track and global privacy signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting that sends a signal to websites you visit. There is no common industry standard for how sites should respond to this signal, so our sites do not currently respond to Do Not Track.

Some browsers and extensions send other privacy signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC). Where the law requires us to treat such a signal as a valid request to opt out of certain uses of your data, we aim to honor it for the browser and device on which it is received. Because these signals are tied to a specific browser and device, you may need to set them, or set your cookie preferences, on each browser and device you use.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, in technology, or in the law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may also tell you in another way, for example through a notice on our site or our banner. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
